10 Rules for Staying Young While You Still Can
We’re on a mission to live fully for as long as we can, while we can—and we want you with us.
Most people get old before they have to. We’re not interested in that, and you don’t have to be either.
We’ve spent years studying health, testing habits, and, most importantly, learning from people who are aging but refusing to get old.
We’ve seen what happens when people lose mobility, gain weight they can’t take off, isolate themselves, and let their mental health decline. We’ve also seen what happens when people keep moving, stay connected with others, and care for their minds and bodies.
We’ve decided we want to be in that second group.
And we bet you do too.
This isn’t about chasing youth or pretending we’re 25. It’s about staying strong, mobile, and alive while we have the chance. It’s about living this decade like it might be the freest decade of our lives—because it might be.
These aren’t just rules we made up to post online. These are the rules we live by. And while we have deeper stories, practical tips, and a whole lot of fun details behind each one, here’s the short, no-BS version of how we’re keeping ourselves from getting F’n old before it’s time.
10 Rules for Staying Young While You Still Can
1. Break The Carb Reliance
Carbs aren’t evil, but relying usually makes us fat and can lead to diabetes and other health issues. We started with keto to break carb dependence, and we still drop into ketosis regularly to keep our fat-burning flexibility sharp. It’s about giving your body options so cravings don’t control you.
2. Do No Harm
Our goal is health, not trying to look 25 again. We train smart, avoid stupid injuries, eat to nourish, and don’t let perfection get in the way of progress. We’ve seen too many people wreck themselves chasing the wrong goals.
3. Laugh at Yourself
Lifting, mobility practice, dancing, traveling, trying new things—it’s all better when you can laugh at yourself along the way. Trying something new will inevitably mean you’ll F up and look silly sometimes. That’s exactly when you need to laugh. If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.
4. Learn from Old Folks
We’ve learned you can learn from all kinds of old people. Some people are cautionary tales, showing us what happens when you stop moving, stop learning, and give up on joy. Others are role models, showing us it’s possible to age while staying strong, active, and joyful. We see both in our work and our community, and it reminds us what’s at stake if we stop taking care of ourselves now.
5. Walk Every F’n Day
Walking is the cheapest, easiest longevity tool there is—and it’s wildly underrated. We walk every day, inside or outside, even if it’s just around the house or across a parking lot, because movement adds up.
Walking helps you maintain mobility, manage your weight, and keep your heart and brain healthy. It’s a chance to clear your mind, connect with nature, or hold hands with someone you love. You don’t need to hit 10,000 steps a day to get the benefits—every single step makes you healthier.
If you want to stay out of a wheelchair later, walk now.
6. Protect Your Mobility
Mobility is freedom. We prioritize getting up and down from the floor, dancing, carrying our own groceries, and staying able to travel without pain.
One of the best things you can do for lifelong mobility is practice your resting squat. Babies do it naturally, and people who practice it daily can still drop into a full squat into their 90s. It’s not just about looking cool; it’s about maintaining strength, flexibility, and balance into your 90s and beyond.
Because here’s the hard truth: when dad becomes a fall risk, the kids are going to have to move him into a nursing home. That’s not the kids’ fault. That’s dad’s fault for letting himself get F’n old before he had to.
Don’t let that be your story. Protect your mobility now so you can live on your terms later.
7. Train for Life
We practice to develop functional strength and mobility, not to develop abs for Instagram. Functional strength and mobility empower us to:
- Stay upright
- Go up and down stairs
- Dance without pain
- Travel easily
- Play with grandbabies on the floor
- Play catch with our great-grandbabies
And no, we don’t go to a F’n gym. We’ve got better ways to spend our time, and we can get more done at home without getting sucked into the gym-kids’ Instagram photo shoots.
Functional strength is a gift to your future self.
8. Start Where You Are (and Don’t Compare)
Waiting for the perfect plan is a guaranteed way to get stuck. Start small, start today, and adjust as you go. Your plan won’t look like ours, and that’s a good thing—we all have different starting points and challenges.
And don’t waste time comparing yourself to someone else’s highlight reel. Forward momentum matters more than waiting for ideal conditions.
9. Embrace the Power of Yet
Just because you can’t do something today doesn’t mean you won’t ever do it.
You might think:
- “I can’t rest in an Asian squat for 5 minutes… yet.”
- “I can’t do 10 pushups… yet.”
Yet is powerful. It keeps you moving forward, reminding you that you’re not done growing, learning, or getting stronger.
You’re never too old for there to be a “yet” in your future.
10. Protect Your Mental Health
If you let your mind get old, your body will follow. Protecting your mental health is just as important as protecting your physical health if you want to keep living fully.
One of the best places to start? Turn off the news. It’s designed to keep you anxious and glued to a chair, worrying about things you can’t control instead of living your life.
But it’s not just the news. Protecting your mental health means:
- Spending time with people who lift you up (and not hanging out with people who bitch about everything)
- Laughing often
- Spending time in nature
- Finding hobbies that bring you joy
- Moving your body to clear your mind
- Practicing gratitude
- Taking breaks from social media scroll holes
- Choosing exposure to lots of kinds of people and lots of kinds of media so your world stays bigger, not smaller, as you age
Your brain deserves the same care as your body. You’re never too old to learn something new, to find joy, or to protect your peace.
And here’s a bonus rule…
X. Be a Role Model
Once you’ve seen the difference, you get to choose who you want to be for the people coming up behind you. Whether it’s your kids, grandkids, friends, or someone at the gym, be the person who shows it’s possible to live fully, to keep moving, to laugh at yourself, and to refuse to get F’n old before you have to.
Let your life be an example of what’s possible.
We live by these rules because we believe the next decade can be our best yet if we stay strong, mobile, and present. We’re not ready to get F’n old, and we bet you aren’t either.
